It started in a camp kitchen in Wisconsin.

With 5+ years running summer camp food service, cooking for hundreds of campers and staff, we understand what it takes to run a successful camp food service operation. The relationships we build with our chefs, camp partners and staff are the lifeblood of the business.

To tell the story properly we need to go back to an overnight camp in Wisconsin. Alex was managing a summer camp kitchen and had a real chance to put out a good product. Campers and staff were enjoying the food and the service, and there was huge joy in seeing those faces and getting to know them.

Running a summer camp kitchen is no small task. One of the real keys turned out to be simple: happy people in the kitchen, followed by some skill and experience. It is the only way to run a successful food service operation at camp. The work is hard, the hours are long, and it is non-stop.

For the next eight years that meant running operations for a food service company providing quality food service to summer camps across the USA — lots of ups, downs and memorable experiences at many different camps. There is something special about being at camp, and each camp holds its own magic.

Summer Camp Cooks came out of a decision to take the challenge on directly, and to do things differently: a culture of passion and appreciation, where chefs and managers are empowered to excel, to learn, and to pave the way for the Summer Camp Cooks of the future.
